La naturaleza nos muestra su poder

"Calentamiento global, depredación de los recursos e inequidad social", es otro de los proyectos interdisciplinarios, puestos en marcha en la Escuela Secundaria N° 5. En este caso, intervienen Geografía, Ciencias Naturales, Introducción a la Física e Inglés.

A continuación, vemos noticias periodísticas relacionadas al tema, en su versión correspondiente al idioma inglés. Luego de ver las entradas en esa lengua, más abajo se puede acceder a un breve comentario en español sobre el contenido original.

Epecuén, a ghost town that emerged from the waters 

It was a luxury villa and now it has hundreds of ruined houses, dead

 trees, flooded streets and a single inhabitant. The flood was caused by water coming from artificial canals and  embankments built nearby.

Villa Epecuén, an Argentinian small town was engulfed by water on November 10, 1985. The town was 4 m. underwater, reaching in 1993 more than 10 mm. In this devastating flood, caused by nature, the remains of city life can be seen: bottles, toilets and a drive that leads to a place where everything is rotten and dead. The landscape contains a rare beauty: the memory of a past glory.

San Carlos Park: Report deforestation in the Natural Reserve

Particular felling of trees in the adjoining gallery space

where the amphitheatre is.

On April 2 2013 trees have been felled in the Natural Reserve of San Carlos. The reserve has 22 hectares and was created to protect native bird species. It is worth remembering that the reserve belong to the City of Concordia  and it is not the  first time that cuttings are made on the site. The park has boundaries with private property which have also suffered the felling.

Six months ago, some removal woks have begun in the reservation beside the amphitheatre. This could be stopped. But six months later, part of the forest surrounding the reserve was felled to open a road.

Neighbours say that a hotel is going to be built, which is totally disturbing, because the reserve was not created for that purpose.

City buried by a volcano

Los Antiguos is a town in the province of Santa Cruz, in the Patagonian region

On the night of August 8, 1991 the eruption of the

Hudson volcano on the Chilean side meant a time of severe crisis for much of the Argentinian Patagonia, and particularly for this town which is quite close to the volcano. While the disaster did not mean human victims, it involved  important economic depression as orchards and forests were covered by metres of volcanic ashes. This sterilized much of the region which  resulted in the loss of millions of sheep and the sudden impoverishment of villagers. Nevertheless, Los Antiguos soon began to recover,  primarily through cooperative efforts.  Los Antiguos is known as the town of cherries.

• Epecuén: un pueblo fantasma que emerge de las aguas.

La noticia trata sobre un pueblo argentino llamado Epecuén que quedó 4 metros bajo el agua y causó varios desastres. Luego de la inundación se pueden ver los restos de esta ciudad, un lugar donde todo está podrido y muerto.

• Tala de árboles en Entre Ríos

La crónica trata sobre la tala de árboles en la provincia de Entre Ríos, más exactamente, en la ciudad de Concordia.

Dicha tala se está llevando a cabo en la Reserva Natural perteneciente a la Municipalidad de esta ciudad, la cual fue creada para proteger a las especies de aves autóctonas, por tal motivo es preocupante para la población. Además varias zonas que han sido taladas lindan con el Anfiteatro de la localidad.

• La furia del Volcán Hudson en la Patagonia

Este informe explica las consecuencias que tuvo para el poblado santacruceño de Los Antiguos, la erupción del volcán la noche del 8 de agosto de 1991.

El macizo montañoso ubicado en el lado chileno entró en actividad, lo que provocó una crisis severa. Si bien no hubo víctimas humanas, el hecho se tradujo en una depresión económica importante, por la afectación de huertos y bosques, cubiertos por metros de cenizas volcánicas. En una amplia región se perdieron millones de ovejas. Sin embargo, Los Antiguos pronto comenzó a recuperarse, principalmente a través de los esfuerzos de cooperación. Hoy, Los Antiguos es conocida como la ciudad de las cerezas
